Katimavik promotes civic engagement and fosters sustainable communities through challenging national youth service programs. Since 1977, Katimavik has enabled over 30,000 Canadians to be involved in more than 2,000 communities throughout Canada.

Participants between the ages of 17 and 21 live with 10 other youth from across the country in 2 or 3 communities. They commit to 6 or 9 month programs where they volunteer 28 to 35 hours a week for a variety of non-profit organizations. Youth also benefit from Katimavik’s structured learning program that focuses on the development of lifelong personal, professional and social competencies in the areas of civic engagement, healthy lifestyle, cultural discovery, official languages, communication, environmental stewardship and project coordination.

KAMADA is the acronym for Kokoms and Moshums Against Drugs and Alcohol. This is a non-political organization that is dedicated to the recovery and healing of all aboriginal peoples and communities from drugs and alcohol. We are committed to networking with all communities in order to prevent the spread of alcoholism and drug use, and at the same time, promoting the importance of healthy living through our traditional ways, aboriginal culture and identity in every and each native person. We beleive that alcoholism is not just a medical issue but a lack of spiritual awareness and identity in our First Nations people.

For the second year in a row SIFE Saskatchewan and Edwards School of Business – Aboriginal Initiatives will be hosting the Aboriginal Youth Idea Challenge (AYIC).  We are writing to you because of your involvement with Aboriginal Youth.  We are encouraging as many Saskatchewan Aboriginal youth as possible to get involved in this exciting opportunity.

SIFE Saskatchewan is a university based economic development non-profit, focused in developing an economically sustainable community. We have partnered with several organizations to deliver AYIC and provide capital funding to promising Aboriginal entrepreneurs. Our key partnership with regards to AYIC is with the Edwards School of Business – Aboriginal Initiatives. With their support we have engaged a large, provincial audience and been able to offer significant capital start-up funding to participants.
